What we keep, and why.
The Byte Beaver is a Modern Mouse publication, based in Saskatchewan, Canada. This page says what the site and the newsletter collect, in plain words. Last updated 2026-10-08.
The newsletter
When you subscribe we keep your email address, the name you gave if you gave one, and whether you asked for the daily brief or the Monday digest. The form is handled by Netlify, which hosts the site, and the list is held by Resend, which sends the email. Nobody else gets the list. It is not sold, rented or shared.
Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click and you are off, no questions. You can also write to george@modernmouse.ca and we will remove you by hand.
Email is sent in line with Canada's anti-spam law (CASL): you asked for it, every message says who sent it, and every message has a working way out.
The website
The site uses Google Tag Manager, Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity to see which briefs are read and whether the pages work. These tools set cookies and record page views, rough location, device and browser type. Google and Microsoft hold that data under their own policies. We do not sell it and we do not use it for advertising.
Requests from known AI and search crawlers (for example Googlebot, GPTBot, ClaudeBot) are logged by the publisher so we can see which engines read the site. That log covers automated crawlers only and is not used to track people.
Server logs at Netlify record IP addresses and requested pages for a short time for security and uptime. We do not combine them with anything else.
Social media
The Byte Beaver posts on LinkedIn. Any connection to a social platform is used only to publish our own posts. We do not read, store or act on your account data.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. Write to george@modernmouse.ca. We answer within thirty days. This site follows Canada's PIPEDA and, for readers in Quebec, Law 25. Readers elsewhere have the same choices.
Changes
If this page changes, the date at the top changes with it, and anything material is noted in the next brief.
